New Roads and Street Works Refresher Training. (NRSWA)
The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 places a duty on any person or organisation undertaking work involving the installation, renewal, maintenance, repair or inspection of underground apparatus in any street or road to ensure that work is under the control of competent persons. To satisfy the requirements of the Act, work involving breaking up and repairing the street must be arranged under the supervision of a person having a qualification as a supervisor. In addition, they must ensure that a person having a qualification as a trained operative is present on the site at all times when work is in progress.
This is a two-day course covering all units. The original Street Works card is valid for 5 years only after which it needs to be renewed. You can only be reassessed in those units shown on your original card.
The course provides refresher training and revision exercises with the online multiple-choice exams held at the end of each unit.
As the exams are 'open book' candidates are allowed the following documents for reference whilst completing
the exams:
- Specification for the Reinstatement Openings in Roads/Highways, Approved Code of Practice (HAUC spec)
- Safety at Street Works and Road Works, Approved Code of Practice (Department for Transport) (Red book
- An Introduction to Vehicle Actuated Portable Traffic Signals (Department for Transport) (Pink book)
- Avoiding Danger from Underground Services HSG 47 (Health and Safety Executive)
We will provide reference materials for use during the refresher training and clean copies of these documents for the examination day, however we would strongly advise candidates to re-familiarise themselves with these documents prior to attending their course.
Candidates are required to bring their current SWQR card with them.
